What is the difference in the treatment between a STEMI and NSTEMI?

STEMI is ST elevation myocardial infarction, with ST segment elevation on ECG, and NSTEMI non ST elevation myocardial infarction. STEMI is due to sudden occlusion of a coronary artery by a blood clot. Best treatment option is primary balloon angioplasty for removing the occlusion, done at the earliest. Alternate option is dissolving the clot by thrombolytic therapy. NSTEMI is due to an unstable plaque with aggregation of platelets, usually producing incomplete coronary occlusion. Early angiography and angioplasty if needed are considered for NSTEMI also. Antiplatelet agents, anticoagulation during procedure, beta blockers and statins are given to both types of myocardial infarction. Thrombolytic therapy is not considered in case of NSTEMI.
