Transcatheter repair of tricuspid valve

Transcatheter repair of tricuspid valve: An article in JACC [1] has highlighted the possibility of transcatheter repair of tricuspid valve in severe tricuspid regurgitation. It is a first-in-man report of a novel transcatheter repair system. Authors mention that isolated tricuspid valve surgery is associated with high morbidity and mortality, especially in those with prior cardiac surgery. The new tricuspid valve repair system was designed to reduce tricuspid regurgitation by providing a surface for native leaflet coaptation. The device occupies the regurgitant orifice area. Procedure was done through the left axillary vein in seven high surgical risk patients with severe tricuspid regurgitation. It was done either in the cardiac catheterization laboratory or hybrid operating room under general anaesthesia.

Procedure was guided by transesophageal echocardiography and the 30 day result was encouraging with only moderate tricuspid regurgitation. No device or vascular access related complications were noted and there was significant reduction in the severity of peripheral edema.
