Risk factors for stent thrombosis can be divided into those due to unfavourable anatomical characteristics or procedural characteristics and those due to unfavourable clinical characteristics

Unfavourable anatomical / procedural characteristics at risk of stent thrombosis and life threatening complications:

Long stented segments

Multiple stents

Overlapping stents

Small vessels

Bifurcation lesions

Left main and last remaining vessel – more of a risk for life threatening situation if stent thrombosis occurs

Unfavorable clinical characteristics at risk for stent thrombosis / life threatening complications:

Recent acute coronary syndrome (ACS)

History of previous stent thrombosis

Low left ventricular ejection fraction

Chronic kidney disease

Diabetes mellitus
