GUSTO criteria for severity of bleeding complications

Global Utilization of Streptokinase and t-PA for Occluded Coronary Arteries (GUSTO:The GUSTO Investigators. An International Randomized Trial Comparing Four Thrombolytic Strategies for Acute Myocardial Infarction. N Engl J Med 1993; 329:673-682) criteria for classifying the severity of bleeding complications were as follows:

Severe or life-threatening bleeding:

Intracranial bleeding or bleeding that causes substantial hemodynamic compromise requiring treatment

Moderate bleeding:

Bleeding which needs blood transfusion

Minor bleeding:

Other bleeding, neither requiring transfusion nor causing hemodynamic compromise
