Echocardiogram in parasternal long axis view

Echocardiogram still frame in parasternal long axis view demonstrating IVS: interventricular septum (with right ventricle above – not marked); Ao: aorta (root of aorta); LA: left atrium; Desc Ao: descending aorta in cross section; LV: left ventricle

Echocardiogram in parasternal long axis view2

Same view repeated for adding more annotations: AML: anterior mitral leaflet (closed position); AV: aortic valve leaflets (open postion); Chordae: chordae tendinae attached to AML; Pap musc: papillary muscle of the left ventricle, attached to the chordae of AML; Posterior papillary muscle and chordae are seen just below that.

Echocardiogram (video) in parasternal long axis view demonstrating the opening and closing movements of the mitral and aortic valves. The contraction of the left ventricle can also be assessed in this view. Ejection fraction is usually calculated with an M-mode cut in this view at the chordal level. Contractions of the right ventricular (RV) free wall is also visible near the apex of the sector.
