Post stenotic dilatation of pulmonary artery

Post stenotic dilatation of pulmonary artery

Post stenotic dilatation of pulmonary artery, persisting after successful balloon pulmonary valvotomy seen on X-ray chest PA view. The residual gradient across the pulmonary valve is only 35 mm Hg. Post stenotic dilatation is thought to be caused by the eddy currents produced by the high velocity jet across the stenotic valve. In case of valvar pulmonary stenosis, the main pulmonary artery as well as the left pulmonary which is in line with the main pulmonary artery also gets dilated.
