Determination of bronchial situs
Right bronchus is eparterial (superior to the right pulmonary artery) while left bronchus is hyparterial (inferior to the left pulmonary artery). Right bronchus is more vertical and left bronchus more horizontal. Right bronchus branches early while the left branches late as it has to travel longer to the lung hilum.
Water fall sign in L-TGA
High origin of right pulmonary artery seen on x-ray chest PA view in cases of corrected transpostion of great arteries
Onion peel appearance in tricuspid atresia
Angiographic appearance in tricuspid atresia when dye is injected in right atresia. Dye moves from right atrium to left atrium through the atrial septal defect and then into the left ventricle across the mitral valve. From left ventricle it passes to the right ventricle through the ventricular septal defect.
Aim of pulmonary artery banding
To reduce the pulmonary blood flow and look for reduction in pulmonary arterial pressures. Circumference of the band is calculated according to the Trussler’s rule: 20 mm + 1 mm/kg body weight.
